The reason to write this article came when I came across people creating distinctions between two great leaders in Nigeria which in my opinion, it’s very absurd.
Ever since former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was voted out of office in the 2015 general election, there have been many agitations by various groups claiming that the election was rigged and was not free and fair as well. One thing is certain during Goodluck’s regime, that he was loved and cherished by the citizens because of his laissez faire leadership style
One of the cogent reasons he was voted out of office in 2015 was unarguably the increased insurgency and killings that have gained solid grounds in the North-Eastern part of the country.
In 2015 general election, Muhammadu Buhari emerged victorious beating Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to become the president of Nigeria. The former President Jonathan did something very extraordinary and to the amazement of Nigerians. He called and congratulated president Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the elections on the phone even before the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, released the results of the election! This feat is a difficult one to come across in the history of Nigerian democracy and African democracy at large. By congratulating the current president and conceding defeat, it meant that the election was free and fair and demonstrated extraordinary patriotism to Nigeria and it’s democracy. This also implied and showed to the whole world that there is no iota of animosity or enmity between the two politicians as well.
It is really absurd whenever you hear people create distinctions between these two leaders, whose main aim is to develop and elevate the name of Nigeria in the comity of nations.
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is the Economic Community of West African States special envoy to Mali. He had briefed the President Muhammadu Buhari about what was going on in Mali following the coup de tat that saw the President of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keita out of office. My point here is that; people should get to understand that these two men are visionary leaders who want the best for this country and elevate the name of this country in the comity of nations. Former President Jonathan remains loyal to president Muhammadu Buhari and Nigeria as well. President Muhammadu Buhari has invited the former President Jonathan several times to the presidential villa to discuss matters that would help in the development of Nigeria. President Muhammadu Buhari has also had closed door meetings with the former president. It is high time we stopped creating distinctions between our leaders.
